Owen Sound’s new homeless initiative is now open for business.
Safe n’ Sound will be open every afternoon this week to allow those who may be homeless or ‘at risk’ of homelessness to visit.
Program Co ordinator Jenny Wright Elliot tells Bayshore Broadcasting News anyone can drop by and see their new digs at the corner of 3rd Avenue and 8th Street East.
While its not an overnight shelter Wright Elliott says its a place where someone can go to get help in navigating the system.
She says their new facilities include a kitchen, showers and internet access.
Wright Elliott says they’ll also be helping with advocacy and referral services.
She says they deal with a lot of the ‘hidden homeless’ in Grey Bruce where people aren’t necessarily living on the streets but they’re couch surfing at friends or going from agency to agency for assistance.
Wright Elliott says a concert held Friday night for Safe n’ Sound was very well attended with the silent auction alone raising more than a thousand dollars.
