More applications than ever are in the hands of MedQuest officials.
Across the province, 315 high school students applied.
Walkerton MedQuest Chair Myrna Ingles says in Bruce and Grey – 86 students are vying for 48 spots in Walkerton and Owen Sound.
The most applications came from Sacred Heart in Walkerton (18) and West Hill Secondary in Owen Sound (15).
Applications also came from Bruce Peninsula (1), Chesley District 2), Grey Highlands 6), John Diefenbaker (8), Kincardine District (7), OSCVI (7), Peninsula Shores (2), Pretty River Academy (1), Saugeen District (3), St. Mary’s (6), and Walkerton District (8).
Two home schooled students applied also.
The applications are with the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Western Ontario in London – who will be the ones choosing which applicants are successful.
Ingles says thirty grade ten and 11 students will head to the Walkerton camp – and eighteen to Owen Sound for the first time.
MedQuest is a medical based camp designed to introduce students to the health care field – by job shadowing physicians and other health care workers.
The students also take part in hands on activities like physical exams – CPR on a simulated mannequin and delivery of a simulated infant.
