Grey County OPP have identified the man who died after driving his vehicle into Meaford harbour.
Police say 65 year old Philip Butler of Meaford appeared to be attempting to park his SUV on Bayfield Street Sunday morning when the vehicle suddenly accelerated and jumped over a parking curb.
The SUV plunged off a metal break wall and into the water.
A man nearby made an attempt to rescue the driver but was unsuccessful.
Fire department divers later extricated the man from the submerged vehicle.
Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the victim to lose control of his vehicle.
A post mortem is scheduled today.
