The 2009 budget process continues in Huron-Kinloss.
Some adjustments are being made and the budget will have varying effects on property taxes.
Treasurer Jodi MacArthur says staff have been instructed to keep the tax rate the same as last year and they have been working to reach that goal.
She says another budget meeting will take place on March 30th and some changes have been made to prepare another version of the budget for that time.
MacArthur says she’s waiting to find out how much money the township will be credited from the OPP as well.
She says that amount should be known next week.
MacArthur says the effect the budget will have on property taxes will vary. She says the average assessment increase last year in the township was seven percent and taxes would increase or decrease accordingly depending on if the assessment level is above or below that amount.
MacArthur says for a property assessed at 100 thousand dollars, it would mean about and extra 30 dollars on the tax bill.
