Anglers in our area only have a few more hours to get their huts off the ice.
Tonight at midnight is the deadline for ice hut removal or anglers could face fines.
Each hut is supposed to registered at the beginning of the ice fishing season with the Ministry of Natural Resources so they can keep track of who’s out on the ice and contact the owner if the huts aren’t taken off on time.
If ice huts aren’t removed, they can cause environmental hazards as the ice melts and can cause debris to wash up on shore.
The MNR says you can still go out and fish if the ice is stable, but just not in a hut after today.
Last year, an angler from Unionville was fined 12 hundred dollars for obstructing a conservation officer and another 300 dollars for unlawfully occupying an ice hut.
And a man from Waubaushene was ordered to pay 700 dollars for taking his registration number off his hut and 250 dollars for leaving the hut on the ice passed the deadline.
