Meaford Council will take another run at the 2009 budget numbers next Thursday.
That’s when staff will have updated numbers and a full report on which proposals presented by Deputy Mayor Mike Traynor might be implemented.
Traynor offered an 11 point plan to save money in the budget and tells Bayshore Broadcasting news he would like to see the tax hike around 3 to 5 per cent this year.
When staff initially presented budget numbers, the municipality was looking a hike of 18 per cent, which was later cut to 11 per cent.
Traynor feels all non-essential services could be cut up to 30 per cent this year in order to save money.
He also proposes the town renegotiate all contracts, with the goal to reduce them by 10 per cent.
Deputy Mayor Traynor says one area that should be clarified is funding for the Meaford Library board.
He says the Library should be considered an essential service and would not fall under that 30 per cent reduction plan.
However, he says Meaford may renegotiate it’s deal with the Owen Sound library where the town pays over 100 thousand dollars a year to the Scenic city to cover former Sydenham residents.
