As weather and road conditions begin to clear up this month, Bruce Peninsula OPP will be stepping up enforcement of traffic safety laws.
Community Services and Media Relations Officer David Meyer says there is always an increase in traffic as spring approaches.
He says they want drivers to know they’re out there and want to see the roads kept safe.
Meyer says for the remainder of this week leading up to March Break, police will be focusing patrols on school routes.
Meyer says they want to make sure drivers are remembering to stop for school buses and kids are safe as they walk to school.
Then for the final two weeks of the month, Meyer says the officers will be expanding their efforts to focus on unsafe driving in general.
Meyer says they’ll be looking for aggressive driving, excessive speed, following too close, stop sign violations, and unsafe passing.
He says those are the types of activities that are usually found to be huge factors in crashes.
Since January 1st, 4-thousand crashes have been investigated by the OPP in South Western Ontario.
14 of those resulted in fatalities.
