It could soon be easier for pedal power to share the road with cars and trucks in Saugeen Shores.
Council will consider adding paved bicycle lanes to seven different municipal roads whenever they’re up to be repaved or rebuilt.
The move comes following a recommendation in the town’s Parks and Trails Master Plan.
Mayor Mike Smith says he doesn’t think bike lanes are needed on every road because of the cost, but is all for it when it comes to connecting sections of the municipal trail system.
Smith says a bike lane was added to a section of High Street, east of Anglesia Street a few years ago and he thinks adding lanes to other roads is a good idea.
He says the issue has come up at Bruce County Council before too.
Smith says adding bike lanes to county roads through smaller communities has come up before, and Sauble Beach was one of the areas of interest.
Saugeen Shores Council will recommend a bike lane be added to CAW road whenever it is upgraded next. That road is under Bruce County jurisdiction.
Other Saugeen Shores roads that will be considered for bike lanes include Market Street, South Street, Peel Street, the 10th Concession, Miramichi Road, and North Shore Road.
Those roads are all in areas that connect with the municipal trail system or beach areas.
