The NDP Health critic in the Ontario legislature, doesn’t plan on giving up about the Grey Bruce health unit.
France Gelinas raised the issue in the legislature recently, asking health Minister David Caplan what was going on in the Owen Sound based operation.
Gelinas tells Bayshore Broadcasting News Caplan’s response was not very fulfilling and she will bring the issue back into the spotlight in a few weeks.
The NDP MPP says just by raising questions in the Ontario legislature, it triggers an investigation by health ministry staff to at least contact officials at the Grey Bruce health unit to see if everything is running smoothly.
OPSEU and the Ontario Nurses association have been calling on Queens Park to investigate the management of the local health unit following a number of layoffs late last year.
A number of satellite offices were also closed, when the new Grey Bruce health unit opened in Owen Sound.
The unions claim too much money is being funnelled into the new 17 million dollar waterfront facility, and not enough to staff and services.
Gelinas says she has no problem with nice facilities, as long as the province is funding the programs and services properly.
