Quite the early morning shock for some residents in Wiarton.
Bruce Peninsula OPP say they had to evacuate several homes last Friday after a domestic dispute ultimately resulted in a gas line being ruptured.
Police say Thursday, a South Bruce Peninsula man left his home on Bruce Road 9 after a dispute with his partner, and drive into Wiarton.
That’s when the 26 year old hit a sign, and fire hydrant.
Police say he fled the scene by hitchhiking, but later called police and turned himself in.
Upon fixing the hydrant, crews ruptured a gas line and the fire department had to evacuate seven nearby homes.
Once it was fixed by Union gas, residents returned home; there were no injuries.
Police say the man will appear in court today.
He faces charges of assault, theft under five thousand dollars, domestic mischief and impaired driving.
