There is a fundraising dance today to help out a Wasaga Beach family.
Jeff McInnis is a family friend of Jim and Jan Anderson, and he says Jim had a seizure while making a cheque presentation for the rotary club at the new cancer unit at the RVH.
He says the doctors who tested him discovered a brain tumor.
And apparently he has had it for years.
McInnis says it is a slow growing tumor, and Jim was sent him down to St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto.
They then performed surgery, but were only able to remove 30 per cent of it.
McInnis says the doctors have told the Anderson family they can use chemotherapy and radiation to shrink the rest of the tumor to control it, but can’t give them a prognosis yet.
Jim and his wife Jan were married one and a half years ago, and have a five month old baby, Jake, as well as a new house.
But Jim now can’t work, and his wife is on maternity leave.
McInnis says that a group of friends decided to put a fundraiser together for the family, to help them pay the bills, as well as the mortgage on their house.
Jim and the rest of the Anderson family are in Toronto for 6 weeks of his radiation treatment.
McInnis says the fundraiser dance is in the upstairs portion of the arena, and there are only 180 tickets available.
There will also be prize tables, and silent auction items too.
But he says they’re almost sold out already, but donations are greatly appreciated too.
The RBC bank branch in Wasaga Beach has also opened a tragedy account for the family, called the Jim and Jan Anderson Fund.
McInnis says the community spirit here is incredible, and the support has been great for the Anderson’s.
