When you turn in tonight, setting your clock ahead is just one thing you should be doing. One other semi-annual task could literally save your life.
The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office reminds us to replace the batteries in our smoke detectors while putting the clocks ahead.
Smoke detectors with dead or disconnected batteries are listed as a factor in a growing number of fatal house fires in our province.
The OFM says many people owe their lives to the fact their smoke detectors started beeping in the early stages of a fire.
The Fire Marshal also recommends you check the working condition of your smoke detector once a month.
You’re advised to replace it if it’s faulty and if it works OK it sould definitely be replaced once it’s 10 years old.
