A special for day for women and for the Women’s House Serving Bruce and Grey is coming up.
Tomorrow is International Women’s Day and the committee has a special event planned.
International Women’s Day Committee Chair Beverly Spence says the day will be celebrated in Bruce and Grey counties with a luncheon and entertainment at the CAW Family Education Centre in Port Elgin.
Spence says it’s an opportunity to salute the women around the world who have made a difference along with celebrating the accomplishments of local women as well.
She says at the luncheon this year’s Women of Distinction will be announced.
The Sunday event is also important for the Women’s House Serving Bruce and Grey in that it is one of two major fundraisers it holds each year.
Spence says they hope to raise seven thousand dollars to achieve their operating budget of 141 thousand dollar for the fiscal year at the Women’s House.
She says the theme of this year’s event is Strong Women, Strong World.
Besides the Sunday luncheon, there will be entertainment provided by The Pomelos, a group of five talented ladies who have a program especially designed for the day.
One of the singers Laura Bird says International Women’s Day is important to the group as well and are thrilled to be part of Port Elgin’s celebration.
Registration and check-in at the CAW Centre is 12 Noon tomorrow.
