Georgian Bluffs wasted no time tearing down the historic church at Mennonite corners.
Council voted to demolish the church and mount a memorial plaque in it’s place, at Wednesday night’s council meeting.
Before 9 AM Thursday morning, the wrecking ball was hammering away at the nearly 125 year old church.
By Noon, it was pretty well down to the ground.
President of Heritage Georgian Bluffs, John Harrison is upset that demolition crews moved in so quickly.
He wanted to see if the province would get behind restoration of the site but says there is nothing left now.
Harrison says the church was one of the first Missionary churches in the area and was involved in the underground railroad.
He says the site had historical significance locally and internationally.
