The airport budget could be one of the items Kincardine councillors make changes to as they work their way through municipal budget meetings this week.
The airport committee has suggested setting 100 thousand dollars aside in reserves this year to prepare for repaving of the runways.
Councillor Ron Hewitt says the runways are three-quarters to the end of their lives and the committee wants to have a budget in place to have the paving work done five years from now.
Hewitt says the committee suggested 100 thousand dollars, but he’d be prepared to cut that amount in half to 50 thousand.
Hewitt also says he doesn’t have a problem with using public works vehicles to maintain runways.
He says in the end, the costs of maintenance have to be covered and it doesn’t matter what department they’re billed to.
Hewitt says the airport is a major asset to Kincardine because of the business traffic it sees from Bruce Power and Ontario Power Generation.
