There are approximately 400 workers at Bruce Power who do not have a family doctor but they now have access to medical assistance without going to a hospital.
Bruce Power spokesperson John Peevers says the company opened a walk-in clinic at the support centre at the Bruce.
The clinic is made up of part time doctors and nurses.
Peevers says the idea behind the on-site clinic is to help alleviate the clog at area hospital emergency rooms by providing some of the service at work for the workers with no doctor.
He says there has been no backlash with using some of the physicians that are already in practice in the area on a part time basis.
Peevers says under this system, it keeps the mainly transient workers out of the hospitals for any medical assistance.
He says Bruce Power will continue to work with communities to help attract new doctors to the area.
Meanwhile, Peevers thinks the employees appreciate to the on-site medical service.
He says it’s nice to have it there when there is the need of the workers.
