Calling all alfalfa growers or would-be growers.
The Bruce Agra Dehy plant on Highway 21 is ready to resume production and they’re looking for suppliers.
On Soundingboard spokesperson Dave Dalzell says they’re holding a growers meeting on Wednesday, March 4th to discuss the industry and what the company would expect from growers and vice-versa.
Dalzell says they will talk about the industry and how farmers in Bruce and Grey can cash in as well.
He says they will have egronomists and some fertilizer people on hand to explain how to grow alfalfa and what the company will be looking for.
Dalzell says all the farmer has to do is grow the alfalfa.
Bruce Agra will come and harvest the plant and haul it to their facility and process it into small food cubes that go mainly to the horse industry, primarily in the United States.
Dalzell says the heavier land in Bruce and Grey counties is prime alfalfa growing land and right now the market is good in the U. S. and in Europe.
He says they hope to process 40 thousand tons of alfalfa this year.
The growers meeting will be held at the Canadian Agra Training Centre on Highway 21 near Kincardine, 10:30 AM on Wednesday.
A free lunch will be provided.
Dalzell asks that those interested in attending, please register by calling 519-368-5174 so organizers can plan the correct amount of food for lunch.
