A lot of fuss being made over a projector at Meaford Hall.
Councillor Jim McPherson brought to Council’s attention at Monday night’s meeting that there was a item on the paysheets list that had a lease payment of one thousand dollars for the 75 thousand dollar projector.
McPherson says the projector was supposedly donated by the Meaford Hall Culture Foundation.
He says they had only recently found out about the monthly payment being paid by the Municipality.
McPherson says he is annoyed that Council is allowing this monthly payment to proceed without any resolution.
He noted that he questioned a similar payment being made a few years ago.
He says that was not right then and this payment to the Foundation is not right either.
McPherson says when the Foundation announced at the September 8, 2008 Council meeting that they were making the donation he asked if the projector had a liability on it.
He says their response was yes and they were paying for it through a lease.
But he says there was no indication that the Municipality was paying part of or all of that lease.
McPherson says he can’t in good conscience vote for a paysheet with an item that had not been approved by Council.
He says he will continue to vote against it until he receives an explanation on how this error occurred.
McPherson was the only Councillor who voted against the payables list with the controversial item.
Mayor Francis Richardson and Councillor Gerald Shortt were absent as they are at the Good Roads Conference in Toronto.
