A historic bridge in Brockton could soon be placed on the heritage list.
The municipal Heritage Committee would like to see the two-span bridge over the Saugeen River on the 12th Concession of Brant preserved.
The bridge is unique because both sections were previously used in other parts of Bruce County and moved to the location in 1948.
One section was the original Denny’s Bridge over the Saugeen at Southampton.
The other section previously crossed the river on the 6th Concession of Brant.
The committee wants to preserve the bridge because of its truss design and role in early road transport in Bruce County.
Mayor Charlie Bagnato says the two sections created a very safe bridge for many years and the Heritage Commitee doesn’t want to see it torn down now.
Bagnato says the bridge won’t be repaired but he does think it’s a good idea to preserve it.
