The recent funding announcement by the federal government means a replacement bridge is on its way for Bognor.
The Municipality of Meaford received 464 thousand dollars from the federal Conservative government on February 13th.
Deputy Mayor Michael Traynor says he is delighted to get the funding in addition to the 464 thousand dollars from the Ontario Liberal government.
Meaford will be responsible for the remaining one-third of the estimated 1.5 million dollar cost of the bridge.
Traynor says they have been waiting for the funding to come for the last 3 to 4 months.
He adds that is not as long considering the way governments work.
Traynor says they have given their staff direction to coordinate the design of the bridge and tendering for the work.
The Bognor Bridge has been closed to the public since last October and a plan to install a temporary bridge had been nixed.
Traynor says the closure has proven to be an inconvenience to the residents of Bognor and those who use the bridge.
He says the roads are also not in good shape during the winter months and that has had an impact on trucks that move goods, emergency vehicles, and school buses.
He says had the upper levels of governments not come up with the money the Municipality would have been challenged in putting in a new bridge.
Traynor anticipates the bridge will be completed sometime around late Fall this year.
