Owen Sound organizers of the second community forum on poverty are hoping to come up with some real solutions.
About 80 people turned up for the first forum back in November and anti poverty activists have released the report from those discussions.
Input from almost 300 low income residents identified lack of affordable housing and transportation issues as the top challenges.
Poverty activist Colleen Purdon says poverty is a complex issue that hasn’t had a big profile in Grey Bruce to date.
But she believes the economic downturn is changing that.
After identifying several issues at the first forum — Purdon is hoping more community dialogue at tonight’s meeting will produce real solutions in being more effective in combating poverty.
The report also calls on the province to start implementing the new poverty reduction strategy sooner rather than later.
The report will be discussed in detail tonight at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Owen Sound starting at 7 PM.
Everyone is welcome.
