Hanover is ready to move full-speed ahead on plans for a new Recreation complex to replace the Colesium.
Ottawa and Queens park announced joint funding for the 10.5 million dollar project thru the “Building Canada Fund” earlier this month.
3.5 million is coming from the Federal government, 3.5 million from the province and the remaining 3.5 million is to be raised in Hanover.
Mayor Kathi Maskell says now that the money is available, they can call tenders for the work.
Maskell says May 1st weekend they are planning a “Last Blast weekend” at the nearly 50 year old Colesium with several events over two days.
In late May, demolition will start on the old building and construction will begin in June on the new facility.
That new Recreation complex will include an NHL size rink at 200 by 85 feet.
It will also have a community hall with seating for about 150 people.
Mayor Maskell says the new Rec centre should be open in about a years time.
