A Fundraising Euchre Party in Owen Sound raised more than ten thousand dollars for Ian Hyland and his family.
Hyland, an elementary school student at Hillcrest in Owen Sound, was paralyzed as a result of a snowboarding accident in December.
Currently, Ian is at Bloorview Hospital in Toronto.
As of today, the staff at Bloorview estimates that Ian will be at the facility for the next year and maybe for as long as two years.
The funds generated last night will be gratly appreciated by the Hyland Family according to event coordinator Donna Dunn.
Dunn says expenses associated with Ian’s care, plus the purchase of a wheelchair and the alteration of the Hyland’s home are among the major items ahead for the family.
Overall, Dunn was thrilled with the Euchre Party.
She and her husband Richard LeBlanc, when preparing for the party, felt they could raise close to five thousand dollars, so they were overwhelmed by the fact they doubled that target.
Dunn is also extremely grateful to Owen Sound & area businesses who supported the event by providing raffle & auction prizes plus, on behalf of the family, issued a large ” thank you ” to everyone who attended or made a contribution to the function.
The next significant fundraiser for the Hyland Family will be at Hillcrest School on March 11th, a Family Trivia Night for students and parents alike.
