More health care services are now available at the Durham medical clinic.
Durham Health Care Foundation Administrator Margaret Krauter says they have recently received approval from the Ministry of Health to become part of the Brockton and Area Family Health Team.
That approval means more health care providers for Durham.
Krauter says they have already hired one nurse practitioner with another on the way, as well as a social worker and a kinesiologist among others.
Krauter says without the family health team designation, patients would have to go outside the municipality for the services, if they could get them at all.
More health care providers aren’t the only big news from the Durham clinic – there are also plans to expand the building.
Krauter says she doesn’t want to reveal too many details at this time, but the plans could see the clinic actually joined to the Durham Hospital.
Krauter explains with 7 doctors and a nurse practitioner at the clinic now, space is already at a premium.
In the meantime, a mobile office space will be parked next to the clinic starting April 1st and house two of the doctors.
Krauter says it’s too early to settle on a price tag for the expansion, but it will likely cost in the area of 1.5 million dollars.
Chesley is also now part of the Brockton and Area Family Health Team.
