Kincardine was one of the municipalities that won big in the Building Canada Fund announced on the weekend by Huron Bruce MP Ben Lobb and MPP Carol Mitchell.
As heard first from Bayshore Broadcasting News, the municipality gets over 6 million dollars from the federal and provincial governments with another 3 million to come from Kincardine taxpayers for wastewater upgrades.
Mayor Larry Kraemer says it will impact several hundred cottage owners and year round residents at Inverhuron, just north of the town.
They’ll be hooked into a sewer system, and a new drainage system in the area will be installed at the same time.
Kraemer says there have been drainage problems in the past, especially when there is huge runoff in the spring and this should resolve the issue.
The wastewater project will likely take over a year to complete and the Kincardine mayor isn’t sure how much impact it will have on taxpayers.
It depends he says, on how council decides to finance the work.
