BIG changes are coming to Tourism in Ontario and our area will certainly feel the impact.
A provincial study looking at the future of Tourism in the province, calls for ONE Tourism association to represent the entire area from Kincardine to Tobermory, and east thru Owen Sound, Collingwood, Wasaga Beach and all of Muskoka.
The Chair of the 8 month long study, MPP Greg Sorbara says it could be called the Muskoka-Georgian Bay region.
Sorbara tells Bayshore Broadcasting News there are simply far too many tourist organizations doing the same job, and their needs to be a co-ordinated effort by one source, so Tourists are not confused.
He says smaller communities like Wiarton and Saugeen Shores should not fear they will get lost in the shuffle, because the single Tourism Association is located in Collingwood or Barrie.
Sorbara says if it is done right, tourists will have all the information on hand as to what is available, and why they should spend some time in those communities.
His 10 year plan calls on the province to invest in infrastructure and tourism, but does not attach a dollar figure.
Sorbara says the goal, is to double tourism in Ontario by 2020.
