The Bomb Has Hit!!!
That is the reaction of the Ontario Nurses Association to layoffs of public health nurses in Owen Sound.
Four part time and 2 full time nurses were given layoff notices from the Grey Bruce health unit and Union president Linda Haslam-Stroud is fuming over the move.
She is threatening to file grievances, and bad faith bargaining charges against the Health unit… saying there was no talk of layoffs when they held contract talks in the summer.
Haslam-Stroud says it’s time for the Minister of health to review the running of the Unit and she is also considering a Censure of the Grey Bruce health unit.
MOH Dr. Hazel Lynn says there may only be 2 positions eliminated.
She says two positions have opened up and the nurses affected may apply for those.
Dr. Lynn says no one has lost their job yet, with the layoff notices becoming effective in 6 weeks time.
