It’s us vs them.
That message from Premier Doug Ford today who asked who would treat Canada like this concerning Tariffs during a pandemic.
U.S. President Donald Trump is, that’s who, said Ford, rebuffing Trumps reimposing tariffs on Canadian aluminium.
The US President says he signed a proclamation yesterday that puts back in place the 10 per cent tariffs on raw aluminium imports from Canada.
Ford says he is disappointed in Trump, saying Canada buys more from the US than the UK, China and Japan combined.
He suggested Canadians buy local-only products to retaliate because Canada is quote: “an economic powerhouse.”
“Rather than tariffs that might be a few billion, we can have an impact on our employees, our neighbours, our friends, our families,” said Ford. “We do $390 billion a year – even if we do one in ten purchases that say Made in Canada on it – that’s close to $17 billion – that’s tens of thousands of jobs.”
Ford says Ontario can compete against anyone.
Ontario is an absolute economic powerhouse, and we know that we are capable of strong economic recovery following #COVID19.
Today we saw a job numbers increase of 150,700 in July!
We will continue to work hard to keep these numbers moving up.https://t.co/tVeyffkpUI
