Ontario has unveiled its plan to reopen schools across the province, announcing that elementary school students and many high school students will return to the classroom full-time in September.
Premier Doug Ford and Education Minister Stephen Lecce released the plan on yesterday, just six weeks before the start of the new school year, saying the school year will resume September 8th in Ontario.
Most students returning to classrooms will go on a full-time conventional schedule in Upper Grand and Simcoe Boards, as well as Bluewater School Board, while many high schools in various boards including in Peel Region and the Dufferin Peel Catholic Board, will go on alternating days.
Following yesterday’s announcement from the Ministry of Education on the reopening of schools, local school boards are getting things ready.
The Upper Grand District School Board and Welington Catholic District School board, as well as other local boards are working hard to ensure all schools are safe, healthy, and inclusive for students and staff.
While each board will have further details about back-to-school to announce in the coming weeks, both the UGDSB and WCDSB will have elementary and secondary students attending 5 days a week.
Masks will be supplied for all staff in schools Students in grades 4 – 12 will be mandated to wear cloth masks Students in Kindergarten to Grade 3 will be encouraged but not required to wear cloth masks.
There will be enhanced health and safety protocols in place, while more detailed implementation will be sharing in early August.
