The Provincial Independent Commission into Covid-19’s impacts on long term care (LTC) homes will leave no stone unturned.
That from Premier Doug Ford today as he launched the commission and outlined its scope.
LTC homes saw numerous fatalities throughout the pandemic with some homes needing to be attended by the Canadian Armed Forces.
Several homes were the subject of a damning report by those forces, which chronicled instances of neglect and unclean conditions at several LTC homes in the GTA.
“Because our seniors deserve better,” vowed Ford. “As Premier, I stood at this podium and made a commitment to the residents and families – that there would be accountability, that there would be justice for them – that there would be answers.”
Associate Chief Justice Frank Marrocco, the judge leading the Collingwood Judicial Inquiry will chair the Provincial Commission.
The commission will deliver its final report next Spring.
I made a commitment to the residents of long-term care homes and their families that there would be answers.
Today we launched the independent long-term care #COVID19 Commission. The findings will help protect residents and staff from future outbreaks. https://t.co/oXBmlqIBZD pic.twitter.com/Pz8Wb3BqVG
