Ontario Premier Doug Ford has commented on his booting of Belinda Karahalios from the Progressive Conservative caucus.
She voted against a bill that gives the government powers to extend or amend some emergency orders for a month at a time up to two years.
The MPP has said she didn’t expect to be punished for doing her job and that the legislation takes the voices of MPPs away.
Ford says he has a phenomenal relationship with Karahalios.
He says the legislation passed was critical for the health of Ontarians.
“(And) it’s an absolute critical, critical bill,” said Ford. “But I just want to wish her all the best – good person, never had an issue, never had a disagreement with her.”
Government House Leader Paul Calandra says the House is now adjourned until September.
As we rise for the summer, I want to thank MPPs on all sides of the legislature. During these critical times people expected us to come together and get the job done. This summer we will keep working for the people of Ontario as we recover from #COVID19.https://t.co/Oss8UFXJRA pic.twitter.com/BSvUxaWLq7
