The Ontario government is expanding the Risk Management Program a year earlier than planned by $50 million for a total of $150 million annually.
The funding supports farmers with unforeseen challenges like fluctuating market prices, extreme weather events like flooding or drought and disease.
Premier Doug Ford says farmers are Ontario’s backbone.
“My friends, this pandemic has been hard on all of us, but it’s been especially difficult for our incredible farmers,” said Ford. “And as a Province, we should all be so proud of our amazing farmers and how they’ve risen to the occasion.”
Ford wants Ontario’s farming communities to know he will always have their back.
I want to thank the Federal Government for supporting Canadians when we need it most. Negotiated together, the $19B will provide critical support for municipalities, transit and healthcare. This historic agreement proves we can do anything as a nation if we stand together. pic.twitter.com/5jZRGZ1YsS
