Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the Federal government will commit over $19 billion to ensure provinces and municipalities have the support they need to protect the health of Canadians.
Broadly, the announcement is aimed at helping restart the economy, but it’s also to prepare for a possible second Covid-19 wave, by paving the way for more PPE and more support for our most vulnerable.
Trudeau says it’s about helping communities adjust to the new normal before a vaccine is developed.
“It’s not just about making sure we can detect, control and prevent future outbreaks,” he said. “It’s also about helping people, businesses and entire communities.”
Trudeau adds that making sure there’s enough safe childcare and paid sick leave heading into the future should also be a top priority.
We’ve been working with the provinces and territories to keep you safe and get you the support you need. Today, @cafreeland and I are announcing that we’ve reached an agreement to continue that work as we restart our economy. Tune in now for the details: https://t.co/RkREai9FAd
