Huron County’s Warden is hoping to see COVID-19 rates lessen enough in the coming weeks for businesses to recover in the summer.
As new daily cases of COVID-19 continue to rise again, Health officials in Ontario are advising against non-essential travel, including visits to cottage regions.
Warden Jim Ginn says he expects many local businesses generate their largest revenues during July and August.
Although travel was discouraged during the Victoria Day weekend, considered the unofficial start to summer in Huron County, Ginn is hoping costs can be recouped in the summer months, if COVID-19 rates decline.
While the federal government is offering greater credit and interest-free loans for businesses struggling during the coronavirus pandemic, Ginn says he has been hearing from local business owners looking for assistance.
He tells Country 104.9 News many business owners are looking for their municipal tax bill to be postponed, or to cut the penalty for businesses who pay their taxes later than they are due.
