The Province is investing in the hospitality sector and also giving skilled trades apprentices a boost as the economy recovers from Covid-19.
Today Premier Doug Ford announced a new $2 million Virtual Action Centre, which will be an online portal to support about 7,000 laid-off and unemployed hospitality workers,
As well, if you are an apprentice who owed money through the Province’s Loans For Tools program, you won’t owe it anymore.
Ford says the Province is helping 11,600 apprentices get a new head start and will be forgiving over $10 million in loans.
“And as more construction gets going, we’re making sure our skilled trades people are set up for success, making sure they have the tools they need,” he said.
The Province will provide grants to purchase tools, protective equipment and clothing for their trade, along with forgiving the loans.
Ford says the loan forgiveness will put roughly $500 back in the pockets of over 19,000 apprentices.
