There are now 29 lab-confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Simcoe-Muskoka including a new death from the virus.
Dr. Charles Gardner, Simcoe-Muskoka’s Medical Officer of Health says the woman who has died was a community-acquired case in her 70s who’d been admitted to Soldier’s Memorial. She passed away yesterday.
The other new cases include a man in his 20s who is currently self-isolating in Huntsville. That case is travel related – he was recently in Austria and Germany. He’d been tested, but has not been hospitalized.
There is also a woman in her 40s in Barrie who is in self-isolation, a man in his 60s in Orillia who is self-isolating and a male in his 60s in Essa, who is self-isolating after travelling recently in Dubai and India.
Another two cases are still under investigation.
The recent death brings the death count to three in Simcoe-Muskoka.
Gardner now expects to see more cases of community transmission here and he reinforced the message of washing hands and maintaining self-isolation practices.
Gardner admits it’s possible there are thousands of people infected in Simcoe Muskoka at this time.
