As the province continues to reopen businesses, the Medical Officer of Health for the Simcoe-Muskoka District Health Unit is sounding the alarm that it’s too early.
Dr. Charles Gardner said yesterday that the local statistics have begun to trend in “the wrong direction” and the doubling rate of the virus has gone from 35 days to 30.
That means the number of days it takes for cases in the region to double has decreased and Gardner says,“it’s not a sign we’re on the right track.”
Gardner says while cases are decreasing in other parts of the province, in the Simcoe-Muskoka region, they are not.
He says just because the number of cases may have plateaued,” it’s not coming down.”
The health unit reported another 5 new cases of the virus yesterday including another death in Barrie, a man in his 80s living at Owen Hill Care Community (but none in Muskoka).
Premier Doug Ford announced yesterday the province would officially begin stage one of its three-phase reopening plan tomorrow.
