The cancellation of summer events continues as the Town of Orangeville says there will be no Canada Day celebration this year.
The Town is extending the cancellation of its recreation programs and public events up to July 6th. – including the Canada Day celebration usually held each year at the Alder Rec Centre and Island Lake.
Mayor Sandy Brown says it is to keep in line with current guidance on physical distancing, and many other municipalities are taking the same action.
The Town is working on plans to invite public participation by illuminating the town in a red hue.
The Orangeville Farmers’ Market, which is considered essential, will be permitted to open either May 16 or 23, with online orders and payment, and then scheduling a pick-up on Saturday mornings.
Additional events cancelled by the Town or community organizations include the Optimist Club Bike Rodeo, the Abilities Resource Fair, the Lions Walk for Dog Guides (possibly rescheduled in September), Barry Burman Shootout, Celebrate Your Awesome, and Rotary Ribfest. Two events – the Orangeville Blues and Jazz Festival and National Indigenous Peoples Day — have been postponed to the fall for now.
