There are now 10 cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe-Muskoka.
The health unit says the latest case is a woman in her 60’s who travelled to Israel, Jordan and Egypt and went to the hospital in Orangeville when she returned.
She is self-isolating at her home in New Tecumseth.
Dr. Gardner says the total of 10 does not include the 2nd case announced today by the hospital in Collingwood because that person doesn’t live in the Simcoe Muskoka region, but is from the GTA.
When asked by Max FM/Country 102 how long this pandemic could last in our region, Dr. Gardner said with previous flu outbreaks there is usually a peak throughout the Spring and then it can come back in the Fall. He adds that it could be two or three months before there is a peak in cases here.
Dr. Gardner adds that he understands there are concerns about no assessment centres in Muskoka yet. He says there will be one set up in Huntsville and one Bracebridge in the next week or two.
