Lucian Bernat was the overtime hero, blasting as shot off an offensive zone faceoff win just before time expired as the Owen Sound Attack rallied from two down late in the third to beat Barrie Colts 5-4 in Ontario Hockey League action Sunday afternoon at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.
Bernat and Pierce Mbuyi each had a pair of goals, and Jake Crawford also scored for the Attack (5-8-1), which extended its point-streak to four and won back to back games for the first time this season.
Carter Lowe, William Schneid, Luca Testa and Sebastien Mogull scored for Barrie.
The Colts led 2-0 after the first before the Attack battled back to tie it 2-2 midway through the second on a pair of power play goals from Mbuyi and Bernat.
But Mogull had a power play in the final minute of second period, getting a point shot through traffic and past Ryerson Leenders to give the Colts a 3-2 lead into the third.
Testa scored to extend the lead to 4-2.
Then with just over four minutes left, down by two, the Attack pulled their goalie and the comeback magic started.
First it was Mbuyi with 3:17 to go, pouncing on a rebound and scoring to cut the Barrie lead to 4-3.
And then Crawford sent the game to overtime, finding a puck on a scramble in front and shooting it low to tie it 4-4, with 52 seconds left.
Leenders had a big save in overtime for the Attack on a semi-breakaway from Lowe — keeping things going until Bernat supplied the dramatic winner.
Leenders made 35 saves in the win, while Matvei Nikonovich stopped 34 taking the loss. Shots were 39-39. Barrie finished 2 for 2 on the power play, while the Attack were 2 for 4.
Next up for Owen Sound is a school day game Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m. at the Bayshore against Sarnia Sting.
