Huron County council is endorsing a request from the residents of St Columban to ask the province for a speed reduction in their hamlet.
Resident Ken Ryan made a presentation to council to request the support for the section of Highway 8 that runs through the settlement.
The current posted speed limit through the hamlet is 70 kilometres per hour, and the request is to have it reduced to 50 km/h.
The residents of St Columban are also asking that the reduced speed limit reach further than it currently does.
The hamlet of St Columban is technically within the Municipality of West Perth, and therefore part of Perth County, but it meets the edge of Huron East and Huron County.
Ryan told council that they will also be asking Perth County council for the same support at its next meeting.
Huron County council gave unanimous support to the request, and will be sending a letter to the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario.
Additional support was given to label the stretch of Highway 8 that runs through the entirety of St Columban as a Community Safety Zone, which would also increase fines for speeding through the community.
