Orillia OPP have charged one person with multiple theft and fraud-related charges after incidents at multiple hospitals in Southern Ontario.
Investigations were carried out at Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital, as well as Headwaters Healthcare Centre in Orangeville, Trillium Health Partners in Mississauga, and both St. Joseph’s and West Park Health Centres in Toronto, dating back to 2024.
The investigations were prompted after several complaints of theft and fraud from patients and staff within the hospitals. Police carried out multiple search warrants, and a significant amount of property were seized.
A 34-year-old from Burlington is charged:
- Fraud under $5000, 34 counts
- Theft under $5000, 13 counts
- Disobeying a Court Order, 7 counts
- Criminal Breach of Trust, 4 counts
- Fraud over $5000, 2 counts
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, 3 counts
- Theft over $5000
- Personation with intent
Police believe there may be additional victims who were patients, Visitors and Staff Members in various units of these hospitals.
