The United Way of Grey Bruce has partnered with Life Directions and the Ontario Disability Employment Network (ODEN) to bring Disability Awareness and Confidence Training to Owen Sound.
The training takes place at Harmony Centre on Sept. 23. It is designed to help employers, nonprofit organizations, service providers, board members and community leaders build the knowledge and confidence needed to create more accessible and inclusive workplaces.
“Creating truly inclusive communities starts with understanding the barriers people face and having the confidence to remove them,” says Executive Director of the United Way of Grey Bruce Francesca Dobbyn. “This training is an opportunity for employers, service providers and community leaders to challenge assumptions, learn practical approaches to inclusion, and recognize the valuable contributions people with disabilities bring to our workplaces and communities.”
The sessions will be led by Jennifer Hope, a disability employment inclusion specialist. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions in a safe and supportive setting, and attendees will receive a certificate of participation.
Two sessions are available: one for service providers from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., and another for nonprofit boards from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The training is free to attend, though donations will be accepted to help cover the cost of coffee and snacks. Participants may choose the session that best fits their role and schedule or attend both to explore disability inclusion from different perspectives.
