The Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre will host a public opening for A Traveler’s Journey with Black and White Film, a new exhibition by local artist Dian Wise.
The exhibition, running Saturday, September 19, from 2 to 4 p.m., showcases traditional black-and-white photography captured and darkroom-processed by Wise over a 30-year period.
It offers visitors a glimpse into the people, cultures and landscapes she encountered during her travels around the world. Visitors will encounter intimate and evocative scenes, including a Maltese woman concentrating on the intricate craft of lacemaking, the stark desolation of an abandoned Greek village, a camel procession on the road to market in Morocco, and a close encounter with a Galapagos tortoise.
“I am intrigued by how local people live and work in different parts of the world,” says Wise. “To gain a better understanding, my role as a photographer is to communicate what I feel and capture that moment in the form of a photographic image.”
The opening event is free to attend and open to all, with light refreshments served.
