Bruce Power and its supplier partners have donated $20,000 to Childcan to help families affected by childhood cancer.
Created in 1974, Childcan is a non-profit organization that provides financial and emotional support during diagnosis, through treatment, post-treatment care, or bereavement.
Financial support includes meals while at the hospital, travel, parking and the Family Financial Assistance Program which can assist with Assistive devices; Medication; Rent and mortgage payments; Utility bills; Grocery costs; or Whatever expenses are most burdensome for the family.
“We are full of gratitude for the difference Bruce Power and their supplier partners make in the lives of families from Saugeen Ojibway Nation Territory and Bruce, Grey, and Huron counties who are facing the challenges of childhood cancer,” says Suzanne Fratschko Elliott, Executive Director at Childcan. “Many of these families receive care at Children’s Hospital in London, and thanks to the generosity of Bruce Power and their supplier partners, Childcan can walk alongside them, helping to ease the financial, emotional, and social burdens of a childhood cancer diagnosis.”
The organization also funds innovative research at Children’s Hospital, London Health Sciences and at the University of Windsor.
The donation marks Cancer Awareness Month in September.
