The Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce is bringing back its business achievement awards.
Chamber CEO Jon Fee says they haven’t held them in a few years, and he’s excited to have them back.
“It’s about celebrating all the people that put so much effort into our economic engine around here, and really give them praise and highlight them,” says Fee.
Nominees will be selected by an external group from chambers all across Ontario.
A black tie awards gala will be held October 16th at Saugeen Golf Club.
Fee says, “We’re really looking forward to it. It’s going to be a great night of celebration with all the businesses in the community.”
There are ten categories, including business of the year, entrepreneur of the year, young professional of the year, volunteer of the year, excellence in customer service, non-profit of the year, innovative business of the year, woman entrepreneurship, environment and sustainability award and online or home-based business of the year.
The deadline to nominate a business is 11:59 p.m. Friday, August 28th. They don’t have to be a chamber member.
“It’s of benefit to the entire community to highlight the businesses that work so hard and contribute not only to their business but also to the community at large,” says Fee, adding, “There are a lot of things that businesses do that generally people don’t realize how much they’re contributing to the fabric of our area.”
He says, “That business that’s doing business today, is spending locally and then also employs people locally and the spin-off is huge. It’s really important to recognize the efforts that people do.”
