Community Foundation Grey Bruce is celebrating students from across Grey Bruce.
So far this year, 96 education awards totaling over $141,000 have been awarded to students pursuing university, college, skilled trades, apprenticeships, and other educational opportunities.
The Executive Director of Community Foundation Grey Bruce, Stuart Reid, said that the organization is pleased with the number of students who applied to different funding options in order to help pave their way to post-secondary education and job training.
“We hand out a lot of money to Grey Bruce students every year,” he explained. “The Community Foundation has over $2 million of endowed funds that are set aside to support scholarships, bursaries, and awards, and so that money is invested. Then, with the earnings each year, we create these boosts for local students.
This year, 100 students submitted 304 applications for 31 different scholarship opportunities.
“That might be something to do with situations changing in relation to OSAP and we also hope it’s in relation to us getting out there and talking to students about this money that’s available and encouraging more kids to apply, because the money is there to help them, and the more people we reach, the more applications we get, the healthier the selection, and we’re really thrilled about the uptake in applications,” said Reid.
That means that the number of student applicants increased by 61.3 percent, while the number of applications went up by 14.7 percent from 2025.
According to Community Foundation Grey Bruce, the recipients of the funding awards are pursuing a wide range of paths, including in healthcare, agriculture, skilled trades, the arts, media, education, and science.
For any student who is looking to broaden their horizons with post-secondary schooling, or for mature students who are looking to participate in additional training, there are options for a diverse range of students who are looking for a financial boost.
“A lot of families come to us and want to establish a scholarship or bursary award, but sometimes it’s in a memorial capacity to a family member that’s passed, and perhaps there’s a particular type of study they want to see supported, and we honour all of that.”
He added that helping students go off to school for post-secondary education might also entice them to come back home to Grey Bruce and join with local employers, or perhaps one day start a business of their own.
“A lot of the students we hear back from them anecdotally that that local support is a real encouragement for them to consider that option, particularly in the medical field and healthcare support.”
While the deadline has passed to apply for several of the available funding, there are options that are still open into the fall.
