West Grey council has sold a small portion of land that was holding up the proposed Durham police station subdivision.
The land was part of an absolute title claim by the municipality to complete registration with the land registry office.
An owner objected to the claim, forcing an absolute title hearing if not withdrawn.
According to the report, the portion of land is not needed for the development, and the owner would withdraw the objection if sold the land.
The municipality will be paid $500 for the property. The municipality’s costs related to surveying and legal fees will exceed $500 and will likely be in the range of $1,500 to $3,000 – which the municipality says is less than the legal costs associated with going through an absolute title hearing.
West Grey’s land sale policy allows for the direct sale of land to an owner if the land in question is incapable on its own of meeting the requirements for a building lot.
