The Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula has completed the acquisition of lands located south of Ferndale Road on Main Street in Lion’s Head to support future recreational and community infrastructure planning.
The lands were acquired from Foster Northern Farms Inc. and are now registered in the name of the Corporation of the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula.
The registered transfer was completed July 15 for a total consideration of $732,000.
“Acquiring this property is an important step toward ensuring that Lion’s Head has the land and flexibility needed to support future recreational opportunities,” says Mayor Milt McIver. “This is a long-term investment in the health, well-being and quality of life of our residents. We look forward to working with the community as plans for the property are developed.”
The municipality continues to experience changing service demands associated with an increased seasonal and permanent population, changing demographics, higher demand for recreational programming, the need for accessible community spaces, and the importance of supporting health, wellness and community connection.
Future development of the property will require additional planning, community engagement, detailed design, costing, funding analysis and council approval before any specific recreational facility decisions are made.
