Municipalities across Huron County are getting provincial funding for community and victim supports.
Over $145 thousand was announced for community-focused initiatives to empower local seniors, support victims of crime, and drive rural economic development.
The Township of North Huron is receiving $55 thousand through the Senior Active Living Centre Program to support programs in Wingham and Blyth.
This funding will give local seniors access to nutritious hot meals, exercise and wellness classes, and educational sessions focused on health and safety.
The Township of Howick will receive $16,865.31 through the Rural Ontario Development Program, which is designated for the township’s Community Improvement and Beautification Plan, supporting projects that enhance public spaces and encourage economic growth.
Victim Services of Huron Perth is receiving $32,500 in one-time additional funding through the Victim Crisis Assistance Ontario Program, to directly boost resources for staff and volunteers providing immediate, compassionate, crisis support and services to victims and survivors across the region.
REACH Huron has been awarded $15,720 through the Seniors Community Grant for its project “Eat Well, Live Well Together.”
The program will host interactive culinary classes that bring seniors together to share cultural backgrounds, enjoy social connection, and learn practical skills for healthy eating and wellness.
Gateway Centre of Excellence in Rural Health is receiving $24,998 through the Seniors Community Grant for its “Connect Along the Shore” initiative.
By blending phone, virtual, and in-person sessions-including expanding technology programs at Legion Branch 109 in Goderich-the initiative makes it easier for rural seniors to stay connected.
